With the help of Joanne and the Adoption Database website, I was able to find the daughter of my late sister who was given up for adoption in 1970 shortly after her birth. My sister passed away in 1975. Following that loss, my mother who is now 88 years of age had always wondered how this baby turned out. The subject came up again during a recent visit I had with my mom in October of 2013 and I decided that I would try to find out some details to help answer my mom’s questions. With minimal information, birth date, birth location, approximate date of adoption and location, I tried to do this on my own. Needless to say, trying to get information on adoptees (especially in New York State) was not successful for the inexperienced person like myself. After walking in to brick walls from the social agencies contacted, I was ready to stop my search until I accessed the Adoption Database website. I decided to use their “No Find No Fee” dedicated search service and I am glad I did. Words of advice: “Don’t give up, get experienced help”. With the registry’s help, Joanne in particular, my search was successful and I was able find and make contact with my sister’s daughter on November 16, 2013. I was very much impressed with the quick results when experienced people get involved. Since the connection, I have been in constant communication with this lady in bringing each other up to speed on her life and her extended family’s lives. We are planning on a face to face meeting in January. I cannot overstate my gratitude for the registry’s help in bringing us together and especially for answering some long unanswered questions that my mom has had all these years. It truly brings comfort to her life. Being my sister’s only sibling, this finding enhances and allows me to revisit the memories of my sister that seem to fade with time. Alan DeGracia
